Udayagiri Wooden Crafts | Kalgudi

Udayagiri is a small town in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. What makes this place famous is a 150-year-old craft passed down from generations - an art form of wooden products with intricate and delicate carvings. The range of products includes cutlery and other handicrafts. The cutlery from this place is so special that it gets a Geographical Id Tag and is a fine example of how art can make mundane things more beautiful.

The softwood is locally sourced from the forests around Udayagiri and has inspirations from Persian motifs. After the procurement of wood from the local forests of Durgampalli, the wood is processed and seasoned to be cut. The wood is shaped and cut into desired forms for the craftesperson to work their magic on these otherwise seemingly regular prorducts. The local artisans then skillfully carve this soft wood with handiwork of the finest quality.

Kalgudi works with the local artisans of the Self Help Groups of Udayagiri to bring these art pieces to your kitchen and homes. Our range of products includes functional pieces of art such as keyholders, simple everyday utilities like combs, beautiful and intricate showpieces and also assorted cutlery & tableware. Head over to  our site to explore these.
