Earlier this month, on the 8th of January, Kalgudi successfully organized a Chilli Buyer-seller Meet in Guntur, land of Chillies! The meeting was intended to connect Chilli Farmers, FPOs, Traders, Exporters with each other face-to-face as well as virtually, in order to enable conversations and relationships that go beyond the meeting. To this promise, the 2022 edition of the meet had a great turnout, which brought together nearly 30 FPOs and more than 50 traders and exporters under one roof.
The event went on from (Times) and we had eminent speakers, foremost in their fields, sharing their knowledge and experiences and presenting a complete picture of Chilli cultivation, post harvest management and marketing. The highlights of the event were two captivating panel discussions which included a wide variety of practical topics. These panel discussions included discussions on new trends in chilli cultivation with a renewed emphasis on current challenges and efficient ways of improving the quality of Chillies, common pit-falls in post harvest management of the chillies followed by practical management solutions for the farmers to handle these. There were discussions on the most common challenges faced in chilli procurement and how they are addressed at farmer and FPOs levels. There were practical methods discussed for creating a value addition at farmer level / FPO focusing on yielding more profits per kg to farmers. Tips were provided for overcoming market fluctuations for Farmers/traders in unfavourable conditions like surplus production, low yield, in season & off season trade. There was also discussion of trade financing mechanisms that traders and farmers can leverage. Apart from the panel discussions and talks, a lot of time was also allotted for networking between the various participants of the event.
The entire event was designed keeping farmers and FPOs in mind. To this effect, we successfully helped farmers as well as several FPOs. To this effect, we identified aggregators across all FPOs by selecting three per FPO to facilitate the marketing activities like Quality Checking at farmer level and monitoring weighing and other involved activities. We digitally profiled around 500 Traders and Exporters details for chilli marketing in Guntur District and regular coordination is being done in an endeavor to further the networking. We are proud to have coordinated with top rated Institutional Buyers like ITC, Olam and AACHI Masala foods. We also are actively updating Chilli Market prices on Kalgudi Platform and FPO whatsapp groups.
